Smart Equalizer, sired by Smart Little Lena and out of the great Moria Sugar, was foaled in 1993 and shown from December 1996 through November 1998. During this period, he was a finalist at more futurities and derbies than any other cutting horse to date and won over $54,000. After building this impressive record, Smart Equalizer topped off the year by winning the AQHA World Championship.

In 1999, Smart Equalizer again qualified for the AQHA World Show and was promptly purchased by Classic S Ranch of Reichling, Germany. He was moved to their private estate near Munich where it was decided he would breed no outside mares. As a result, Smart Equalizer only bred four mares per year for the next four years. Most of these foals were flown to the United States and have been successful in the show pen. According to EquiStat, to date Smart Equalizer has produced seventeen foals with accumulated winnings of $123,000 for an average of $7,235 per foal. He has produced world and futurity champions along with AQHA superior reiners, grand champion halter horses and Congress futurity finalists; including the 2005 Congress reserve champion senior reiner and 3rd place junior reiner. In the process they collected for their efforts ten of the coveted C.R. Morrison bronzes.

Pat Faitz, a trainer of 48 AQHA champions, brought Smart Equalizer home, to the USA, in 2005. Upon the stallion’s arrival, Faitz, an AQHA judge for 49 years, said: "When he was in Germany, he was treated like royalty. But…" she continues, " he was like an eagle in a gilded cage, now he’s home doing what he was meant to do, being a cow horse". Smart Equalizer, world champion and sire of champions is now back and standing at the Watkins Equine Breeding Center Inc. in Texas.
